If you are a woman, protecting your safety while online dating should be upmost on your mind.
You don't want to take the fun out of online dating but you do want to err on the side of caution.
Always play it safe. Don't give out your full name, address or phone number until you meet with and get to know this wonderful guy. It is not necessary to give out this information in order to attract a man.
If he is the type man you want to meet and go out with, he will understand.
Don't tell the guy you are chating with exactly where you work. If your profession is in nursing, just say that you are a nurse for a local hospital. Don't say which hospital. That should give him an idea of what you do for a living.
Unless you live in a really small town you could share the city you live in. Often times people participating in online dating are looking for someone in their same vicinity anyway.
Do not give out your 'isp' email address. This can be traced. Use the chat and private email tools offered by the online dating service that you are signed up with. Another option is to get a free email address with gmail or yahoo to use just for your online dating period.
When you have decided that you want to have a face-to-face meeting with your guy, make it a public place and during daylight hours. I have a friend who met his wife online and he said he always met the first time for lunch at a local resturant. That way not only is it a public place, your time with each other is limited if you really don't hit it off.
Don't forget that you are in control. Don't let any man pressure you into revealing more personal information that you feel comfortable sharing. Your personality will first attract a man and then after you have met and you feel comfortable sharing more information you can do so when you are ready.
